Church members interested in scheduling a baptism service are encouraged to call the church office during normal working hours to inquiry about availability dates. Non-church members interested in baptism must have a member to sponsor them. Scheduling for a baptism should take place at least one month prior to suggested date.
Youth and adults persons moved to be baptized during a service of worship must notify the pastor of his/her intent and schedule a time for the administration of sacrament during a future service of worship.
Preparation for Baptism
It is a requirement that parents/sponsors of infant/children to be baptized or youth/adult seeking baptism meet with the pastor for a one hour session at least one week prior to the scheduled time of the sacrament. The session will include information on the United Methodist understanding of baptism and the historical questions associated with the sacrament. Contact the church office to schedule an appointment.
Information for Records
When making an appointment please submit the following information: full name of the person to be baptized, the names of the parents/sponsors (if infant or child), place and date of birth, current address and phone number. This information will be kept in the church records and placed on the baptism certificate.
The Day of Baptism
Participants should arrive at the church at least fifteen (15) minutes before the worship service on the scheduled date of the sacrament. The early service of worship starts promptly at 9:00 a.m. The second service begins at 11:00 am. There are a number of visitor parking spaces located around the sanctuary building. Please secure a seat at the front of the sanctuary for ease of movement. At the appropriate time participants will be called to come to the altar area. Family and friends are invited to be witnesses to the service. There is no limit to the number of witnesses that may come to the altar area. Baptisms are performed immediately preceeding the children's mesage, about half way through the service unless other arrangements have been made.
Pictures and videos are allowed during the service provided that they do not become a distraction to the sacredness of the event.
Infants are welcome to wear sentimental or new clothing for the sacrament. Please advise pastor if special articles provided by the family/sponsors are to be used for the service (River Jordan water, ocean shell, flower, etc.)
After Baptism
After the sacrament is administered, participants and witnesses are invited to return to their seats. Child care is provided in Kirk Hall, the education building adjacent to the sanctuary. The foyer is available to parents of infants who need quiet attention.
Baptized participants will receive a church certificate and a small congregational gift. Please keep certificates in a safe and secure place. The congregational gift is a keepsake offering.
Please contact the church office at 972-382-2655 if additional information is needed.
