Founded in April of 1870, First UMC of Celina moved to the current location at the corner of Colorado and Pecan in 1926, moving from the Methodist South Church located west of Celina. Over the past 80 years, First UMC has thrived as a downtown church, currently with more than 350 members.
Beautiful stained glass adorn the windows of the sanctuary. All were lovingly donated as remembrances to family and friends. A large back-lit stained glass cross hangs above the chancel area. It was created by church members during the 1980's.
In 1998, Kirk Hall was built just south of the main church building. Kirk Hall houses the Administrative Offices and a large fellowship area.
In 2002-03 the sanctuary was updated with fresh paint and lighting and the balcony was outfitted with new pews replacing the old wooden seating.
The church underwent a major renovation of the lower level of the main building in 2005. All classrooms were updated and space was reallocated to allow for additional rooms.

Our future is built on the covenant partnership made between God and the family of First UMC - Celina. God has a dream for this community and we are committed to faithfully following God's lead into tomorrow and beyond. In order that we might remain faithful to God's vision, First UMC purchased approximately 20 acres of land on the west side of Celina across from the Old Celina Park in June 2006. The church plans to develop this land over the next few years into a new church facility which will include a multi-purpose building for classrooms and activities as well as a new sanctuary.
The Long Range Planning Committee completed a church-wide survey in the fall of 2007 to determine the congregation's priorities for growth.
In January 2008 a Building Committee was created to begin the process of formulating and implementing the planned growth.
Stay tuned for more information as we listen to your dreams and mesh them with God's dream for our faith community and the communities around us. We look forward to partnering with you to acheive God's vision!
